February 9, 2024 Sydney, Australia, Day 51 of 138
Oh what a beautiful early morning...Mike got up at 1:45 am, yes, that is the time he tells me. He captured our arrival to Sydney Australia. It was an amazing sail in.
Above is the famous Sydney Opera House. We learned that is took 16 years to complete. A Swedish Architect had the vision from Mexico the Mayan pyramids with their steps lead him to design the steps leading up to the front doors on the other side of this picture. The sails are all Australian. He worked them into the roofline. The roof is a cream color. They were intended to be white, but with the amount of sunshine in the city it was blinding.
My day started much later, as I slept through Mike's photography session. I am so happy he was able to capture the scene for all of us. Our cruise staff and the Immigration officers processed us quickly this morning. Shuttle buses were available to take us to King's Wharf, which is right downtown. We walked the wharf and saw the ferries coming and going. This city is built around multiple harbors. You will see our views of the famous arch bridge, "The Sydney Harbor Bridge". The first picture was graffiti that is of an Aboriginal man. It was done very well.
On our way back to the shuttle we walked through Barangaroo Reserve. They have planted many native plants and trees in the green area. One area was identified as a stargazing lawn. To get back to the wharf we had to walk down steep steps. I was a little hesitant to start the journey, but got the hang of it by the end. To think I thought it was a good idea to walk over the top of the Sydney Harbor Bridge. This is a thing. It is a 4 hour experience. They dress you up in clothes the same color as the bridge, and there are safety harnesses. You see where the flags are, that is where people are walking from one side to the other. It has to be an amazing experience.
We loved our first taste of Australia and Sydney. The night ended with one of our young vocalist Madie having her own show. She has amazing talent. She moved Mike to tears, so we had to document it with a picture.
