February 16, 2024 Sea Day Day 58 of 138
Good day mate! We are trying to practice some of our favorite Australian phrases. Today we are off on an excursion of the Blue Mountains. Yesterday we had similar weather to today, and unfortunately the people on yesterday's excursion did not get the view of the valley below or the Three Sisters. This was our view the first 2 times we went to Echo view point.
This is our picture taken in the afternoon on our third attempt to see the view. We are supposed to see a rock formation known as The Three Sisters, and the valley floor. Here is our picture from the last trip to the view point. We did get to ride a Cog Rail car down the side of the cliff. It is known to be the steepest Cog railway.
Then we went on a walk to the tram. Look at the size of the rock! This area was built up for the coal mining. They used horses to pull the coal wagons out of the canyon to the cog railroad.
Above was our second ride, and it was weighed before every trip. We had to let two people out to get us under the required weight. This is our guide Phillip on the right. He kept us moving, and was the one who helped us to try a third time for the view at Echo Point.
We had another walk, until we came to the gift shop, and the last tram.
Back at Echo Point I saw these Cockatoos, the unique Letter box, and just because I can I took a selfie of Mike and I kissing. In case you wondered, he said I couldn't do it, so I have proof, I can and I did. LOL
We had lunch at this hotel. It was called The California Hotel when it opened, and they used Redwood shingles on the outside and painted it red. The fountain was in the courtyard and this Cockatoo flew in and posed for me, so I had to catch the picture. Note the castle like area around the reception area. The last picture was the view from the courtyard.
Mike walked to this waterfall. My foot was hurting, so I stayed with the bus. I did get over 15,000 steps today, so I think I am doing pretty good.
It was wonderful day. We want to wish Don and Lynda Adams Happy Anniversary. They are celebrating 49 years of marriage. We are happy for them. Tonight at trivia I was able to answer the question of what day in July 1969 the first man walked on the moon. Thanks Alvera and Lynda for having a birthday on July 20th, to make this day even more memorable.
