January 13, 2024 Kauai Travel day 25
What a difference a day makes. Sometime during the night the seas calmed and we woke up to a glorious day. Below is our sunrise.
After breakfast we went to the Explorer's Lounge to watch our entry into port. As we arrived, you could just make out the mountains in the distance. I didn't get a picture of the harbor pilot boarding our ship. The harbor is very narrow, and you have to make two 90 degree turns.
We had a mile walk to the Harbor shopping area. It has an ABC store, several eating places, and T-shirt shops, we found a couple of things on our list, so good first stop. It is a short walk to Kalapaki Beach. This is a beach that is featured in Donavan's Reef, a John Wayne film, that is one of Mike's favorite movies.
This is a special place for Mike and me as this is where there is a Duke's Restaurant. Mike and I on our first Hawaiian vacation shared a Hula Pie at a Duke's. We have tried to make it a tradition on each of our subsequent visits. It is just as good as we remember. As you can see from the picture below we had no problem finishing it.
We still had shopping to do, so it is off in a taxi to the Mall. I came closer to finding a replacement, but even here they have winter weight skirts.
We return to the ship, and Mike was able to catch some sun. It has been a good short visit to our favorite Island. Everyone who returned enjoyed their day.
We are back sailing the 99 nautical miles to Oahu. It has been an enjoyable day.
